GRADING POLICY

I use a total point system in my classes. Each gradable activity will be given a point value. Students will earn points base on their performance.

General points values
Note: At times the point values may fall out of these ranges depending on the difficulty of the work.

Homework....5-25pts
Quizzes........10-50pts
Tests...........50-150pts
Essays.........10-100pts
Projects.......50-150pts

Final grades will be based on the percentage calculated by taking total earned points divided by total possible earned points. If a letter grade is marked it will be converted to points.

-Points for letter grades will correlate to the value of the letter grade earned.

Example:
A 50 point Essay that receives an “A” will get 48 points

An Example for a current grade:

Earned points from all other work 563
Total possible points 620
Grade calculation, 563/620 = 90%= A-

 

CLASSROOM CONDUCT

I have one rule. Conduct yourself in a manner that does not prevent me from teaching and you or others from learning.

The policies of the district and the school shall be followed. We will manage ourselves in class with four core principles as our guide; responsibility, truth, integrity and honor. We shall be responsible for ourselves and our actions, seek out the truth and be truthful, and conduct ourselves with honor and integrity.

 

Examples of specific classroom Expectations

1. Show courtesy and respect to fellow students, class guests and school staff.

2. Arrive on time(three tardies=detention)*, be seated and prepared for class when the bell rings. Prepared means that you have a pen or pencil, paper, notebook, textbook and completed assigned homework.

3. Stay in your seat until dismissed.

4. Ask questions. If necessary, raise your hand to get my attention. During particularly excited discussions I will require hands to be raised and students to wait until called on.

5. Seating is at the students choice but permanent. Students may be reassigned to different seats at my discretion. Seating arrangements may change for specific lessons.

6. Applicable school policies will be followed in the classroom. This especially includes academic dishonesty.
NOTE: Dishonesty is the most offensive form of disrespect to the school, other students, you and me.

7. Remedies I will take for your deviation from appropriate class conduct will vary depending on the severity of the offense. These remedies can range from a simple reminder to removal from class. Extreme situations will be dealt with in accordance with school policy.

*Change in tardy policy:
In order to keep in line with the student handbook I need to amended the tardy policy stated in the course handout.

1st time= verbal warning
2nd time= teacher detention with parent contact
3rd time= teacher detention with parent contact

If the behavior continues the student will be refereed to an Administrator
